Description
rice:
Rice is a small, edible grain that comes from the plant Oryza sativa (Asian rice) or Oryza glaberrima (African rice). It is one of the most important staple foods in the world, especially in Asia, Africa, and parts of Latin America.
Rice grows in fields called paddy fields, which are often flooded with water. After harvesting, the grains are processed to remove the outer husk and may be further milled to become white rice, or left with the bran layer to make brown rice.
There are many types of rice, including:
White rice – polished, soft texture, cooks quickly.
Brown rice – whole grain, more fiber, nutty flavor.
Basmati rice – long grain, aromatic, common in Indian cuisine.
Jasmine rice – fragrant, slightly sticky, used in Southeast Asian dishes.
Parboiled rice – partially boiled before milling, retains more nutrients.
Rice is versatile and used in a wide variety of dishes like biryani, fried rice, risotto, sushi, and plain boiled rice.
